Personal Story of Business Owner
Zainab was born in 1995 and she is the second of two children. She obtained her diploma in Food Science and Technology from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Bauchi State – Nigeria. She is a very driven young lady who is passionate about business. She always looks for ways to stand out from her competition. She learned about yogurt making while she was doing her industrial training internship, and became very interested in going into the business herself. She has always looked for ways to take care of herself and bring additional income to the family. Her business has given her this opportunity to look ahead. She is currently seeking admission to the University to advance her study in the same course (i.e. Food Science and Technology).
The business became an inspiration for Zainab to choose her course of study; she is hoping to expand her business so that after school, she can use what she has learned to join the big market competition. She also hopes to provide the most delicious yogurt in Bauchi.
Business Owner Timeline
How the business started:Zainab learned how to make fresh yogurt drinks during her internship program. She began making them for her friend’s birthdays and for the family but she has always wanted to own her own yogurt shop.
When she joined LI:Zainab joined LI’s business creation program in the year 2015; she learned about the program through other LI business beneficiaries and expresed interest in building a yogurt making business, as this is her passion. Zainab feels that LI has given her the opportunity to make a difference in her life and the lives of those around her.
Who trained her and for how long:Zainab started learning how to make yogurt during her Industrial Training program in school and later when she joined LI’b business creation program she expanded her skills through a yogurt making training school in Bauchi. She spent about 6 months learning different methods of yogurt making and two months learning how to run the business.
How was she trained:Zainab learned to how to make yogurt of different flavors and she is currently looking forward to working with LI International Business Alliance Program students to improve her business with ideas on different yogurt flavors that will help her business stand out and gain popularity.
How she hopes to help her family:Zainab hopes to support herself and ease the financial burdens on her parents. Her father is retired and her mother is about to retire; therefore, sponsoring her education or taking care of the family will be difficult. This business is helping Zainab gaining confidence in herself; she hopes to see how her business can be expanded so that she can take care of herself and her family in the future.
Development Goals For the Catering Business
- Wants to learn how to add preservatives to the yogurt so it stays fresh longer
- Need to create an advertising and marketing plan
- Create new yogurt flavors.
