Story of the Business:
Some of the shoemaking shop’s main customers are the local police force, security firms and local military troops, because of the quality and style of the shoes. Some months he receives local orders to make 500 -1000 shoes in addition to his usual orders because of his dedication to creating high quality footwear.
Danliti’s shoes have earned a reputation over his competition in neighboring states, and at times even receives orders from other nations. He has won contracts from multiple groups, allowing locally owned and operated institutions to invest money within the community. This has allowed Danliti to grow his business and hire additional employees, which has brought his business even more community support. Danliti has become an icon within his community for community re-investment and giving. Danliti has worked hard to grow his business over the past two years pushing to gain local contracts that are often given to businesses outside of his community and at times Nigeria. This has allowed thousands of dollars to stay within his community and be re-invested locally.
Danliti’s goal has been to show how local business owners can give care and services that other larger companies often can’t; for example, offering boot repairs to his police and military boot customers.
Danliti’s shoemaking business has continued to expand, allowing him to hire more young individuals who have a desire to create change within their communities. Danliti has also spearheaded an Orphan care project, pushing his employees and other business owners to work to save orphans who otherwise would not have a social safety net to protect them.
Danliti shows and continues to show why locally owned businesses are important, why the local community should support them and how they can change the lives of so many within the community.
Danliti has also beat foreign competition by offering repair policies for his footwear that larger outside companies don’t, allowing him to compete at an unprecedented level.
This has kept thousands of dollars within his community and reinvested allowing local dollars and funding to continue to transform lives.
How We Are Transforming Abdullahi’s Shoemaker Shop
And Changing The World
After discussing problems Mr. Abdullahi was having with his business, our group ended up going with the idea that was most practical and fundamental to helping him efficiently run a business. This idea happened to address his problem with keeping records and keeping track of his business’ revenue, expenses and profit.
As a team, we developed a record book keeping system that will help Mr. Abdullahi’s keep track of his sales, profits and expenses. To keep all of this information together we thought that it would be convenient, but confusing at the same time. Therefore we came up with the idea of incorporating the idea of a storybook with two stories to this record book keeping system. Moreover, if you flip the record book one way it will contain paper spreadsheets that keep track of the revenue, which happens to be the number of boots, sandals, and special occasion shoes he has sold, and the total revenue the products make him. Then, he would add up the total revenue his shoes made him daily. This would be something that he would do daily. Then, at the end of the week he would add up his daily revenue in order to calculate his weekly revenue. Additionally, if Danliti were to flip the book the other way, to the back he would be able to keep track of his expenses. Here he would keep track of when he buys his materials, a description of the materials he buys, and his total expenses for that day. Finally, at the end of the week, he would add up his daily expenses to come up with his weekly expenses. We would also be able to calculate through this system the weekly and monthly profit. We would make this book come to life by printing out our spreadsheets and binding them together to make this personalized, easy to use book. We will also include instructions on how to use it.
We are eager to see exactly how our idea works out, however, we are sure it will, because knowing how to manage money is a key part of learning how to run a successful business. Thereafter, if you know how to manage your businesses’ money and you are able to calculate exactly how much profit you make through a system like the one we’ve designed, your business will only grow because after that. From knowing exactly how much profit you’re making and exactly how much you’re spending on your business you will be able to discover who your target market really is and be able to see what is working well and not, through logically thinking. In the end, finding a way to efficiently keep track of your records is only the start to not only allowing your business to prosper, but to grow and develop.
