Our project will focus on the expansion of the Tiling business. Expanding this program is necessary because it will provide employment opportunities for others in Nigeria. Increasing the employment will better the lives of the people and the entire community. Working with Global Young Innovators Initiative provides the perfect opportunity for us to make a difference and impact lives.
Tiling is a job that has been around for a while and will continue to stay. This puts the business in a unique position to impact the economy and the community. Because it will be around, it will provide multiple opportunities for employment, which, in turn, will allow more citizens to provide for their families. It is our honor to be working with a Nigerian tiling business and are fortunate enough to be able to have this opportunity that will impact the lives of other while developing our own business skills.

Story of the Business:
Muhammad installs floor tiles, kitchen tiles, and bathroom tiles in new homes. Based on budget and client preference, Muhammad uses many unique designs for his customers to ensure that they are satisfied with his work; his designs have earned him a strong reputation within his community, bringing in more business with each passing day. Moreover, Muhammad has many special offers and discounts for his clients, allowing them to receive high quality tiling for a lower cost. Muhammad dove into the tile business after two years of working under another contractor. He diligently learned the proper installation techniques and developed his own, giving him a competing edge over his competition. Muhammad’s preparation and patience has helped him create a successful business that has grown significantly over the last five years. In the coming years, Ibrahim looks to expand his services a greater number of clients.
Muhammad also is married and has three children; his business has given him the means to provide his children with a strong education and a better future.
Muhammad’s designs have helped him become a star within his community. However, his more significant impacts lie in job creation.Muhammad’s business employs four hard working individuals, providing them with a stable income and hands on vocational training. Ibrahim strives to grow his business so that he can hire more employees and give them a chance at a better future.
How We Are Transforming Tiling Floors and Walls
And Changing The World
The very first time we read about Muhammad Sultan was the business description provided to us by Global Young Innovators Initiative. We immediately created a list of questions to ask our business partner in the Skype session. In this Skype session, we learned that Muhammad Sultan’s company does not have a name or logo. Also, he currently has absolutely no advertising on his part. All of his clients come to him and know of him through references. Another problem that arose during this Skype conversation was that he didn’t get paid in full in the beginning of the projects, so he is forced to extend the project for a few days because he can’t risk buying the materials and finishing the job just in case he isn’t paid in full.
Our solution to the advertising problem is to start advertising. Flyers, business cards, and t-shirts were designed using “Sultan Tiling” and the new logo. Our solution to the financial problem was to create a contract that states that the customer has about three days to pay Muhammad Sultan fully. The contract comes into effect after the client has signed it. If a client is late on the payment, they would be charged extra. On top of that, we noticed that Muhammad Sultan does not have a set list of prices for the different rooms or per square meter of tiles. Creating the the fixed cost for labor per day and the price per square meter with discounts allows him to have some stability and constants in his business as well as allow for Muhammad to alter the prices however he sees fit.
This combination of answers creates a perfect solution to the overarching need that Muhammad Sultan wants, which is to expand the business so that he can hire more employees. The answers allow him to get more jobs through advertising and better pay through the new payment plan, so it allows Muhammad to be financially set, so he can afford to hire more workers to train and have more money to invest in his company. The more citizens that work in Nigeria, the more can provide for their families’, which satisfies Muhammad Sultan’s ultimate goal.
