Story of the Business:
Some of the shoemaking shop’s main customers are the local police force, security firms and local military troops, because of the quality and style of the shoes. Some months he receives local orders to make 500 -1000 shoes in addition to his usual orders because of his dedication to creating high quality footwear.
Danliti’s shoes have earned a reputation over his competition in neighboring states, and at times even receives orders from other nations. He has won contracts from multiple groups, allowing locally owned and operated institutions to invest money within the community. This has allowed Danliti to grow his business and hire additional employees, which has brought his business even more community support. Danliti has become an icon within his community for community re-investment and giving. Danliti has worked hard to grow his business over the past two years pushing to gain local contracts that are often given to businesses outside of his community and at times Nigeria. This has allowed thousands of dollars to stay within his community and be re-invested locally.
Danliti’s goal has been to show how local business owners can give care and services that other larger companies often can’t; for example, offering boot repairs to his police and military boot customers.
Danliti’s shoemaking business has continued to expand, allowing him to hire more young individuals who have a desire to create change within their communities. Danliti has also spearheaded an Orphan care project, pushing his employees and other business owners to work to save orphans who otherwise would not have a social safety net to protect them.
Danliti shows and continues to show why locally owned businesses are important, why the local community should support them and how they can change the lives of so many within the community.
Danliti has also beat foreign competition by offering repair policies for his footwear that larger outside companies don’t, allowing him to compete at an unprecedented level.
This has kept thousands of dollars within his community and reinvested allowing local dollars and funding to continue to transform lives.
How We Are Transforming Abdullahi’s Shoemaker Shop
And Changing The World
As a team of four that has only known each other for a limited amount of time, we have progressively used our skills and ideas to create three different solutions for our business partner, Danliti Abdullahi and for his cobbling business. Our team, Danliti and our translator Umar have successfully collaborated on how to solve Danliti’s business issues of limited advertising, financial management and a lack of a repair policy.
Through our Skype video sessions and individual team meetings, our team has solved Danliti’s advertising problem by partnering with the Photoshop business owner, Umar, to create a flyer for his business. Danliti has had a great reputation in the Bauchi state of Nigeria for being a great cobbler by making and repairing shoes for not only civilians, but also for the national military and local law enforcement. However, Danliti’s business can always be improved which was emphasized by him which lead our group to create an appropriate flyer to raise awareness about his business. This flyer includes a few images of the many shoes that he is capable to make and repair. Our team has also solved Danliti’s financial management issue by creating a financial calendar for him to use. It is a simple design that is meant to be user friendly. The calendar is of normal design, but each individual date provides space to record daily income and expenses. At the end of each week, month, and year, Danliti can total up his profits. This can also be used so he can recognize trends, such as certain times of year where he sells more. This way, he can be better prepared to fill these orders. The final solution we are bringing to the table is the institution of a shoe repair policy. A repair will cost 50% of the original cost of the shoe. This will bring in more profit by adding another aspect to his business, and will also lead to more customers; they would witness first-hand the competence and reliability of our partner Danliti.
After putting all the time we could into this project, Danliti liked our ideas and hopefully will be putting them into action. Using what we have created for Danliti, his business will grow and become more profitable, allowing for expansion. Helping his business grow through means of advertisement, a new policy, and more organization will help Danliti send his children to school.
