Global Young Innovators Initiative
Electrical Repair Team
It is our mission to make our mark on the world and create projects that will change lives. We will commit to any endeavor whole heartedly and dedicate all our resources. It is our goal to impact more than just our own community but extend our help to struggling areas internationally. We are currently striving to nurture the Rabiu Electrical Shop in Birshi Village, Nigeria.
Our focus with the electrical shop is mainly putting them “on the grid” by advancing their advertising attempts and informing their employees of safety regulations and precautions. Eventually, we aspire to raise the money to help Rabiu and his team to update their tools to more efficient appliances. We are not only pursuing this project to support Rabiu and his family, but to make Birshi Village a “brighter” place for its citizens. We are “charged” to work with Leadership Initiatives and gain experience!
We were pulled to teaming up with an Electrical shop because electricity is a necessity for the people of Nigeria. It is unfathomable to think some may be living without power, and it is so inspirational that Rabiu does many jobs pro- bono to put the “light” back in some Nigerians lives. Many Nigerians face extreme poverty, with over 70% living on less than a dollar a day.We wish to aid in making electricity easily accessible, as well as perfectly safe to use.
We believe a new business card and a safety booklet is a great starting point for a growing Electrical shop. We are striving to provide advertising mediums that Rabiu and his team can easily distribute. We hope that all our efforts focused into producing a solution will aid Rabiu Electrical Shop in continuing to be both thriving and successful in the future.
See how each day at the summit we are gaining new skills to assist our business partner and transform lives.

To bring electricity to homes, businesses, schools and internet cafes in Birshi and the surrounding area, and to provide repair services to maintain reliable electricity.
Story of the business
Rabiu received his training as an electrician from his father and then started his own business with just N3,500 and a few tools. All he had was a hammer, a pair of pliers, a tester, a screwdriver, and a bending spring. In 2013 he had a struggling business but was a pillar of the community often doing electrical work pro-bono while trying to make ends meet.
In the winter of 2013 Rabiu became part of the Leadership Initiatives Business Creation Program and learned business management, accounting and project timeline completion plans to improve his business through LI-sponsored night classes.
With support from Leadership Initiatives, Rabiu was able to acquire investors to improve his business so he could finally afford actual electrical tools, and received additional electrical training so he could work to restore his community’s failing infrastructure. Today, because of the business training he received, his new skill set, and new tools to do additional electrical work, the Rabiu Electrical Shop is thriving.
Rabiu’s Electrical shop has connected multiple homes and businesses to the Bauchi electrical grid and has worked to restore old buildings and structures so they can support electrical devices. The impact of these efforts cannot be overstated. Because of Rabiu and his team’s efforts, jobs have been created throughout Bauchi and more families can benefit from everything that a home with power has to offer.
Rabiu also sells electrical equipment including televisions, stereos, lighting products and more. This is especially important because many people in his community lack the transportation necessary to travel to other areas that sell these products.
Rabiu’s Electrical shop also does pro-bono work restoring and connecting electricity for those who cannot afford his services, allowing their families to grow even when they are struggling economically.
Rabiu has also taken in six young teens and helps provide for their food, board, education and skills training so they can one day find employment in the field of electrical repair.
