Global Young Innovators Initiative
Group Name: The Beauties
It is our mission to change the lives of Maslaha, her family, coworkers, and community. We pledge to give our best effort to any projects we acquire. Our group deeply admires the strong example of empowerment for women that Maslaha illustrates in her community. It is our goal to aid her in the furthering her business so that she will be able to make a change in her Nigerian community.
We know that Leadership Initiatives will allow us to experience one of kind opportunities, and we are welcome to challenges. As a group we look forward to see the future impact that we will make in Maslaha’s community, and also how this will reflect in our personal lives.
Our plan is to further the advertisement for the Beauty Salon, we want the maximum amount of people possible to hear about this wonderful Nigerian Business. We have created a new logo for Maslaha’s Salon, along with a slogan. Maslaha is trying to expand her skills so her Beauty Salon can stand out in her community, and we plan on highlighting this in advertising. The plan we have created should help create a more legitimate and professional image for the salon. The end goal is for Maslaha to have the maximum amount of clients as possible, and we are hoping with our ideas we can reach this with time.
See how each day at the summit we are gaining new skills to assist our business partner and transform lives.

Story of the business
Fatima grew up working on hair. As one of eight children, she had both younger and older sisters to practice on growing up. She was so passionate about wanting to own her own salon someday that she started learning the trade at the age of 12 and was one of her sister’s first apprentices/employees when she opened up her own shop.
Gaining an education was incredibly important to the Suleiman family, and after the passing of Fatima’s father, she was determined to work even harder to graduate from secondary school in his honor.
This experience drastically changed Maria’s life and after she got married in 2003, Fatima’s goal was to get a job and contribute to her own growing family so they would never be dependent on just one provider.
Fatima has become an example of empowerment for women within her community. With her booming business she has employed 5 young women and in many cases made them the primary providers for their families.
Employees use this new income to take care of their children, siblings and parents. Collectively, these they send 8 children to school with their salaries.
Fatima also trains apprentices on hair care and works with others to attend school and obtain a postsecondary education. Fatima has become a sounding board and mentor to many women within her community who wish to provide for their family and open their own businesses, becoming an icon of empowerment.
