Mission StatementWe have a mission to positively impact the world around us, whether it be our community, or others that are thousands of miles away. We are determined to aid the Nigerian economy through our work with Muhammadu’s business. In this endeavor, we are additionally working on leadership and problem solving skills, while always keeping the wellbeing of the business in mind. Although challenges may occur in Muhammadu’s business, we plan to help in solving them undeniably. This knowledge gained through the actual practice with real businesses in a different culture setting will be unforgettable. While we learn about the fascinating culture, we will inevitably learn about the process of business and how to go about it. The purpose of our involvement in the program is not only to aid in Muhammadu’s business, but his surrounding community. We are excited to take part in such an essential basis that remains a pillar of human life: farming. Farming is extremely important to Muhammadu, as it goes back multiple generations.

To be the number one irrigation farming business in the Bayara community, that will provide the food supply of the local community at an affordable price, meeting the daily demands of the people.Story of the business
The business started when Muhammadu inherited a small farm from his father. Irrigation farming has been a family business for them for generations. After joining the Leadership Initiatives Business Expansion Program, Muhammadu brought in community investment to grow his irrigation farm and expand into new trades. After several months of training he graduated from LI’s business training course, and then undertook LI’s skills training course to ensure he mastered the skills needed for cow herding and managing a larger farm with new foods. With the profits from the irrigation farming, he began to fatten cows- which also provided him and his large family with additional income.Muhammadu cares for 19 children of various family members who have either passed away or can no longer work. All the children are fed, clothed and sheltered from the income he makes from his farm. Though Muhammadu never had any formal education, he is determined to see to it that the children in his care do. Of the 19 children, two(2) are in secondary school, three (3) in primary, one (1) just finished his secondary school and one (1) is in a higher institution. Unlike other farmers who only farm during the raining season, Muhammadu’s farm has three harvests each year. Community Impact:
His family, neighbors and the members of the Bayara community have benefited from Muhammadu’s irrigation farming, as they are provided continuously with free farm vegetables and fruit that would have been costly to purchase at the town’s market.
Muhammadu’s neighbors have also been positively affected, as they too have been provided with nutritious food. The money saved due to Muhammadu’s generosity even allowed some to purchase more household items or send children to school.
Muhammadu’s irrigation farming provides low-cost high-value food for his community and creates jobs for three people who are able to provide for their families and send their children to school because of their employment.
Muhammadu, or “Kawu” as he is fondly called, is a hero to his community as he helps the community of Bayara meet their basic needs year in and year out.
