Wilton High School
International Business Alliance Program
Our mission is to improve the photography business in Nigeria. In doing so, we will understand and learn more about Nigeria’s diverse culture, have exposure to global communities, and gain expertise in helping out other communities. Not only will our partnership with the photography shop expand our thinking and communicating skills, but it also will bolster the community’s economy and refine the business.
We are very excited to be working with Umar Inuwa and his business. Photography is an art that connects people on a fundamental basis. It captures that which cannot be described in words, thus making it a unique medium in which language is not a barrier. Our solutions will hopefully help him think of creative techniques in order to stand out as a company, master the different aspects of new technology and equipment, and organize the accounting and statistical sides of the business.
By solving these problems, the community around Umar will also improve. It is our goal to impact those around us in a meaningful and beneficial way.

To build a photo studio that will be number one in the Bayara community and that will produce employment opportunities for other members of the communityStory of the business
Umar started to learn about the photography business in 1997 when he worked as an apprentice and started a one-man analog photo shop in 2000. Umar came across LI in 2008, and participated in the computer literacy training which LI gave in collaboration with CYDI (Challenge Your Disability Initiative).
Umar then completed a Leadership Initiatives intensive business creation course where he learned the principles of business management, further developed his idea for a photo business, gained skills in digital editing and was able to garner investor support to create a digital photo studio. After LI’s training Umar closed his old analog shop and opened a new digital studio. The training and expertise he acquired from being a part of the LI/CYDI computer literacy program has helped him build his business and to move from the use of analog to digital system. Because of this new digital system, Umar’s business has increased ten-fold allowing him to hire 3 local employees.Community Impact:
This business was the first photo studio in the Bayara community. Due to the location, discounted pricing, and Umar’s knowledge of the passport and government ID programs, Umar has been able to help multiple individuals obtain their passports and other government ID’s to get new jobs within Nigeria and the world.
Umar’s business has also grown significantly due to his ability to create wedding albums using his digital editing software, giving families in his community a chance to purchase affordable wedding photos and albums capturing one of the most memorable times of their lives.
The Gimbiya Photo Studio has created jobs and sends children to school; and Umar, along with his employees, care for local orphans and provide skills training to help make a stronger, happier and brighter Bayara community.
Like what we do, help us bring in experts to train emerging business owners in the developing word!!!
