Leadership Initiatives is committed to working directly with communities at a grassroots level, where we believe development has the greatest impact. It is in these communities where women, men, and youth can discover their voice, assert their rights, and mobilize action to achieve their aspirations and realize sustainable development for all.

OUR APPROACH

We view community members as key actors in developing meaningful approaches to cope with difficulties. Taking a community-based perspective means to take actions depending on community voices, to implement through community structures, to focus on services on the individual, group, and policy-making level while building an effective system in which all actions feed into each other.

Education is exceedingly important in the fight against poverty, and, accordingly, our Community Education Program. We strive to communities’ perceptions of the importance of education

We strive for transformations towards social justice by addressing the root causes of discrimination and inequality. Taking a human rights-based perspective demands to protect all community members against abuse, violence or exploitation of any kind and to support them to exercise their rights and reach their full potential.

Funds projects that impact school attendance, boost human rights and improve health outcomes that are identified, implemented, and planned by communities

WHY COMMUNITY-FOCUSED?

Education is a primary need for community development and a key driver of growth. As education is a powerful agent of change, we work to increase access to primary and secondary schools in rural areas.

MAKE EDUCATION ACESSIBLE

We work with students, families, and groups in rural areas to support community empowerment through enterprise development. We strive to create new growth-inducing opportunities.

CREATE SUSTAINABLE OPPORTUNITIES

The promise for everyone to enjoy full equality and remove all legal, social, and economic barriers remains unfulfilled. We work to enable all individuals to realize their potential and become effective members of their community.

EMPOWER MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS

KEY INDICATORS

Our success centers around access. We evaluate our projects based on if more people have access to education, increased income, healthcare, and community-wide improvements.

To ensure effective development, we conduct baseline surveys before and immediately after projects, as well as yearly following a project. Staff also work closely with community leaders to monitor growth.

After just one year of community development, there has been a measurable increase in school enrollment, energy access, and hundreds of new employment opportunities.
